Track 8:         Carry Me

Can't remember when I wrote this, but the process entailing its recording is worth a few words. Wes, Kris, Jenn, Dre, and I made a three-car road trip across the state of North Dakota one day in the fall of '99. We stopped just south of highway 36 at an old abandoned school building in what we think was once Arena, ND. We took pictures there for Not So Complicated, explored the old Lutheran church, and stood up on that hill enjoying the freedom of the Dakota prairies. Before sunset, we sat in the stairway of that old school, and learned this song for the first time. Hours later we finished the drive to Minot, ate supper at a truck stop, and arrived at Dave's studio around 10 o'clock. Jon and Dave learned the song as we played for the tape, and just before midnight (two hours and some 30 takes later) we captured "Carry Me" from start to finish. Four guitars and a roomful of fun. Wish we could've captured more of the laughs, too...

Carry Me

by Jeremy Erickson

You made me.

You saw me.

You gave me all I needed to stand.

You know me.

You see me.

You hold me in the palm of Your hand.

I let my emotions and my mind believe in You, Lord.

And I will gladly stand and testify,

You carry me.

You carry me.

I believe that You carry me.
