Track 5:         Rivers of Babylon (Psalm 137)

Truth is, I can't remember when I wrote this song. Seems to be a few years ago. And I think it's safe to assume it was a rather difficult time of life. This psalm is sometimes subtitled with "An Experience of the Captivity." I think this life is like that for us quite often. We're not yet as free as we were intended to be, but as long as the hope of deliverance still exists in our hearts, we're not as captive either.

Rivers of Babylon (Psalm 137)

by Jeremy Erickson

If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my hand forget its skill,

May my voice be silenced, may my tongue be stilled.

How can we praise You in a land that's not our own?

How can we worship when we're still so far from home?

By the rivers of Babylon, we wept and hung our harps,

Longing for the day that You would set us free.

By the rivers of Babylon, You taught us how to cry.

You taught us to believe.
