Track 8:         Appreciation

It was at a Sold Out youth retreat at camp Kitchi Khanis the fall of 1995.  The theme was "enjoying God."  Keith Quanbeck was speaking for the morning session, and I was in the shower room with my guitar writing a song to accompany the theme.  That was quite awhile ago.  I don't remember much other than singing the song for the first time in that shower room.  I guess it was kind of like my morning prayer time, and so that's what I did - I prayed, and this song was my prayer.  It's not mine anymore - I mean, it's not just mine.  I guess it never was.  We recorded the song live this time - sitting on the floor in the studio, with little Seth Skogerboe crying in the control room, being human and being loved by God...just like us.

Appreciation

by Jeremy Erickson

Too many times I fall to my knees,

and I'm begging You please, to forgive me.

No matter how hard I try, there's always reasons why

I've got to fall back at Your feet.

Have I ever shown You just how You've helped me see?

Have I ever shown You just how much Your love means to me?

How I appreciate the way You communicate Your love.

And we sing holy, holy, Lord God Almighty.

Holy, holy, holy are You, my Friend.

Holy, holy, I will love You, I will love You

wholly, wholly, I will love You 'til the end.

Recognizing several grammatical short-comings in this song,

I chose rather to leave it as it was. In light of how often, in our

most-real moments of depravity and worship, we are unable to articulate

perfectly the weeping of our hearts, I thought the short-comings quite

fitting.
